Still the older ones like the famous Honus Wagner, the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth. Pretty much all the pre-war (WWII) cards are pretty valuable. As for something more recent, the 2001 Bowman Chrome Autographed Rookie of Albert Pujols is far and away the most valuable regular issue card of the last 20-30 years. If you want rare cards, a one of a kind Mother Teresa Autograph just sold for over $10,000 and was pulled out of a 2007 product.

so what do i need to have and what skills do i need to open a shop?

The basic thing u need to have is

1-Place-Shop to keep your wares

2-Money to buy the wares and shop and furnitures.

3-Must be familiar with most of the games.

What u should see is

in ur shop will u be getting customers. i.e the children who buy- are they close by to buy. Are there many children so ur business would prosper.
Reply:Well you are going to need to sell more then just cards, have a ecent building, make it big enough for tournaments and put it in a well populated area. I would sell Naruto, Yugioh, MTG, WoW, Pokemon, those are the big card games right now. Also making it into a comic book shop and action figure shope would be nice. You need to get familar with all the card games, and get certified to organized them. If you don't do that you will probably go out of buisness.

i bought a box of baseball cards at an auction that have many of them stuck together. not by a foreign substance, just by the glossy surfaces of the fronts and backs. would steaming them work, like you would to open an envelope? help!

Proceed with care. The cards likely got damp and that has caused the coating to stick. I would try a short burst in the microwave (25 seconds at most) on some of the cards to see if that works. Steam or a hairdryer are also options. Whatever you do, don't get them too wet or too hot.

The first guy was right, you CAN get it via gameshark, but another way is to use a special cheat that only the older games (R,B,Y) have. with the cheat you can override the "battle memory" of the game. OK, you know that area after Nugget bridge, but before Bill's house? What you need to do is fight everyone on the way EXEPT the kid with the slowpoke (all he has is the one) and the guy sitting in the grass next to Curealin Cave. Next, catch an Abra just outside of Curealin city. It should have telaport. Then, with abra in your team, go back and battle the kid with the slowpoke (save your game beforehand), then head for the area with the guy sitting in the grass. What you need to do now is inch forward, one step at a time, and press "START" immediatly when he becomes within your sight range. select your abra via "POKEMON", and choose teleport. though the trainer will see you (he will have a "!" over his head, you will have teleported back to the pokecenter. Now go ahead and start to head back up Nugget Bridge. you will stop short, and the screen that pops up when you pres "Start" will come on. Simply press "B", and you will suddenly find yourself in a battle with a lv.7 Mew. Cool huh?

When I was younger I collected basketball trading cards. I have upper deck, top flight, skybox, fleet, and others. I haven't owned a Beckett in ages. Are these cards worth anything anymore? I have cards of most/close to all the players from that era.

Unfortunately the trading card market was oversaturated in the early 90's (and late 80's) in all sports. I've found many a lot on ebay with hundreds and thousands of cards offered from this era that may not even sell for $10 or less (it costs a lot to ship a huge lot of these cards as well)...

Your best chance is to sort your collection out by certain players or teams, some individual collectors jump at lots featuring their favorite player or team. You won't be getting much money but it may be more worthwhile than selling the whole thing at once. Make sure to price competitively. Another great site is sportlots.com, you can list your cards individually, it's a lot of work but it's an easy tool for collectors seeking affordable ways to find common cards they need.

There are exceptions in a few places, if you have cards that aren't part of the base sets (i.e. insert cards, or special sets) I would consider putting those to the side...you can probably price some of those cards for free by searching ebay's sales the past 30 days and see what they are going for. Beckett also sells a monthly online price guide for around $5 that could be worth your expense.

Thus, an intellectually and emotinally healthy child should respond with disdain to cards that preach subordination and servility.

Of course, this isn't the 1940's, these days kids play video games, not card games and jacks.

Some dealers and collectors check for inserts or a hot pack by measuring the pack's weight. This is not ethical but still being practised. Now these people do not just weigh with any scale but with a good digital scale with an accuracy of up to 1/100th of a gram. These are the type of weight scales used by jewellers. Some card companies do substitute a thicker game-used insert with two regular cards, but there's still a chance of weight variance. Older method of feeling or fingering the packs for inserts is still being used, but this method can damage the edges of cards.
Reply:I'm just throwing this out there, but if a piece of jersey is added to the pack, wouldn't the weight of the pack change? Perhaps you could check weights of the packs.

How do trading cards work?
In general, a person finds a card game they like, for example, pokemon. They buy packs of cards to add to their collection and if they use them for battling, then they make a strategy with the pokemon and the effect cards they have in their deck. As for trading, someone might like a certain card, so they will trade one or two of their cards for it, and sometimes even money. Every game has it's own rules and card layout. Most of the time there are about 5 cards in your "hand" (the cards that you see) with other cards arranged on the table according to the rules. All have different rules for winning.

Hi, I have a whole slew of old comic/sports cards (ones that before the internet would have sold for quite a bit), but I am wondering: With technology going how it is going, and interest in paper novelties such as these, comic books, etc., will the value ever go up?? I have a mint condition Michael Jordan from 1993 and saw it on ebay for 1.99 :( Is it hopeless? Should I just throw them away?

Don't throw them away you can sell them all to me. To be honest with you they will go up. They are like the economy supply and demand. When the demand comes back for them the price will go up. Just sit on them and wait and don't do anything you will regret.

Reply:With the way that online auction sites keep getting more and more poular, and with the number of users on these sites growing and growing the value of sports cards/collectibles will keep going down. There is a much higher supply of cards then there is a demand, which is why you see those low prices. It is not all the fault of online marketplaces however. There are to many card comapnies out there making way to many different cards. As an example it used to be that there were 3-4 rookies of major people, there are now tons of rookies out there. The card comapnies have flooded the market with cards, which along with the worlwide online marketplace has killed sports card c ollecting as many of us once knew it.

I want to make and sell a game I made using those little colored stone counters used in trading card games like Pokemon and roleplaying games. I'm looking for cheap one's so I can make money when I resell them. Do any specific craft stores carry them as something else like for fish tanks? I need various colors solid or translucent. Also, where could I find other parts like pawns and dice for cheap?

Pretty much any hobby store in your local mall will sell all of that stuff. I used to work at petsmart way back when and we did have fish tank pebbles that were all pretty homogenous and similair in size and shape to those stone/marble counters, but i couldnt tell you the name of the product.

Reply:They are great for making your bike sound really cool. Use a clothes pin and attach the cards so that when the wheel turns they bend in the spokes. Also, they can be used to cover up the smell of a really bad bowel movement by burning the card. There may be other ways these cards are valuable but I don't know them? Hope this helps.

Starting off with magazines:

Two most read are Beckett Hobby guide ... and TuffStuff.

Beckett has specialty issues (baseball only ; football only ; Pokemon only) ... while TuffStuff has all hobbies, including the ones you mentioned.

As for online sources:

Yes, eBay is a good start. But their worth is not necessarily the actual value, but what someone is willing to pay for them. Which, indirectly is what they're worth, but I hesitate because you really need to follow at least 3 different sales to see what your card is truly worth -- not just one sale which might be overpriced, or undervalued.
Reply:You could go to ebay and watch the auctions and maybe get an idea of what some of your stuff is worth compared to sellers selling the same things. Also check out the sellers store.

I keep on debating on what is really the effect. And the Kaiser Coliseum as well. If there are no monsters on your side of the field, does that mean that the card is destroyed or nothing can be summoned unless you do . . . I'm confused.

In yu-gi-oh trading cards, is the effect of "Demise, King of Armageddon" once per turn or only once?
Demise, King of Armageddon's effect is what's called an ignition effect. Generally, monsters with Ignition Effects have to be sacrificed to activate the effect(i.e. Exiled Force, Red-Eyes B. Chick) but in Demise's case it stays in play so you can just pay 2000 LP, during your main phase only, and destroy all the other monsters on the field. As for Kaiser Colosseum, if you have no monster then your opponent can summon any number of monsters until you summon a monster. After that they can't summon(tribute summons are allowed as long as they still have fewer monsters than you) any more but the excess monsters they have in play aren't destroyed.

Many of the free packages do not give the nice overview that you might want to really help you 1) get started and 2) have something you can take to the bank (literally). Jian is a company that charges ~$120 and you can probably get it used cheaper on eBay. Consider how much time you would save and the improvement in quality for a few bucks. What do you want the next big trading card game to be like?
The next big TCG will have some varient of Magic the Gathering. Whether it be play style or how to play spells, that's what I see. When Pokemon came out, I saw a lot of Magic in it. Even when Yu-Gi-Oh came out, I saw a lot of Magic in it. Sports games that have come out haven't really had any impact on the TCG world. They came, were hot, then fizzled away. Pirates (possibly the newest way to play TCG's) haven't really hit as big as I had hoped.

I knew two people who were contracted to do cards for the original Magic deck while they were still in the works being sold to Wizards of the Coast. It took the artists forever to be paid. When they eventually DID get their checks, it was $150 per card. Each of them had done six cards for the collection. The size they worked in was around 8x12" in size, the art was shrunk down to what was needed, and cropped a bit. I believe the Wizards of the Coast kept the originals, in case reprints were needed to be made.

If you email the art editor and ask their rates, you can get a more definite feel for the pay scale. But most use artists they've already worked with or with those whose portfolios they've seen. You have to be professional and send a query letter to them with samples of your work and a return envelope. They work just like most publishers, so follow the format.

The best thing to do is look in the phone book for a sports card or comic book store. Not only do they sell the cards, they often hold tournaments so that you can have other people to play against.

No. Wizards owns the idea and mechanics of the mana resource system. If you're resource system is similar to the mana system then you will have to deal with Wizards at some point. Few card games have avoided doing so(Yu-Gi-Oh, Naruto, etc) but its happened. I suggest you consult a lawyer before you attempt to market and sell your game.
